Activities and Organizations

  • Volunteer, Books for Development August 2019 – Present: Books for Development is a non-profit organization in Houston that collects books to send to developing countries in an effort to create libraries in areas where illiteracy rates are high and book availability is low. Volunteers, like myself, are able to assist by sorting the books by genre and age group, packaging them, and then preparing the books for shipment to various countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as Uganda, Malawi and Kenya. As a Terry Scholar, this experience was extremely rewarding as I was able to play a role in providing educational resources to underserved communities.
  • Vice President of Member Education, Director of Finance, Delta Gamma August 2018August 2020: Educated new members on our chapter's history and philanthropic pursuits. Collaborated with other board members to organize events for our chapter that promoted education, networking, and personal and professional growth. Additionally, I would work with the Delta Gamma Foundation and Alumni Association to provide scholarship and leadership opportunities for our members.
  • Historian, Terry Scholarship Organization June 2018 – June 2019: Organized and managed monthly community service events for UH Terry Scholars. Communicated with volunteer organizations and non-profits to better understand and promote their cause(s) to students.
  • Student Advocate, LEAD August 2017 – May 2018: Met weekly with a student from a local elementary school in Houston, TX. The adolescents who participated in this program were often from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The goal of these visits was to provide a stable setting for social emotional learning.
