Lead Technician

  • Working as a lead Endoscopy Tech at St Jude Medical Center under the supervision of the Endoscopy manager and Endoscopy RN.
  • My role as a Tech III is to be a mentor, role model and resource to the team providing knowledge on all aspects of the department.
  • Assisted in moving GI lab to a new location expand care to the growing community
  • Troubleshooting equipment and if needed sent out for repair
  • In addition as a tech III,  responsibilities include training new hires 
  • Ordering supplies for both inpatient and outpatient GI Labs
  • Email distributers when supplies have not arrive or if on back order
  • Properly staff both in and outpatient labs with tech with the nurse coordinator.
  • Aside from my lead responsibilities I also assist in the procedure rooms.
  • Those duties include assisting the physician during procedures as well as handling specimens with the direct supervision of the RN.
  • Test proper equipment and have specialty items available upon request.
  • Greet and position patient on correct side.
  • On call for emergency procedures
  • Equipment I am familiar with are biopsy forceps, snares, baskets, clips, Bicap (gold probe) CRE Balloon dilators as well as Savary Dilators.
  • I also assist physicians in HALO procedures in treatment of Barret's esophagus and also assist in Double Balloon Enteroscopy and EMR's.
  • Also responsible in manually washing scopes and placing them in the disinfectant machine
  • Properly document  scope information

In 2017 I was honored to be on the hospital wide Huddle. Earlier that year the hospital hired 10 GI nurses. Aside from the daily responsibilities I was given the challenge to train all nurses in a matter of a couple months. Long days and evenings, earned me an applause from a colleague which then found its way to the daily Huddle.
