Additional Information - Personal Story
Unfortunately, I had to step away from my first attempt to complete nursing school. The reason I had to make the difficult decision to step away was my second son Alexander was diagnosed with developmental delays and cerebral palsy, which kept me at hospitals, doctor appts, and specialists. When he started school, additional challenges arose. I am happy to announce that my son is now 15 years old and about to finish middle school at campus middle school in Greenwood Village, Co. He is currently an honor roll student and is thriving. I am confident I can step back into medicine and help others as I once did. I guess it is safe to say, 'Everything happens for a reason, and you need to wait for your season.' I have had some sales jobs that were on a flexible schedule, independent contractor basis (so I could be available for my son). I thrive on helping those who need a helping hand and a calm demeanor in emotional situations. It is so important to respect a person's final wishes and support them and the whole family throughout the dying process, as well as through the periods of grief afterward. Grief is such a personal thing, and everyone does it in their own way, in their own time. I lost my father to a glioblastoma brain tumor back in 2015, and I went through his treatment and care plan and worked closely with hospice throughout the last months of his life. I was also there as he took his last breaths. I do not know what our family and I would have done without the compassion and nurturing of the hospice care team throughout the last precious moments of his life. While going through the last couple years of nursing school, I want to embark on being a part of such a rewarding, and important time for individuals and families while making a difference in helping those through their loss and grief.
