Matthew Sweeney

Motivated sophomore engineering cadet at SUNY Maritime College with strong academic, leadership, and teamwork experience. Excelled in high school with honors all four years, a full academic scholarship, National Honor Society membership, and athletic achievements as football team captain, MVP, Defensive MVP, and All-State recognition. Gained practical shipboard experience through Summer Sea Term I, developing knowledge of ship routines, safety procedures, watch standing, and teamwork in demanding maritime environments. Worked in real-world settings as a deli worker and food delivery driver, building reliability, time management, and professionalism. Completed a comprehensive Capstone project, showcasing research, technical documentation, and presentation skills, and is now eager to apply both classroom and shipboard training to hands-on engineering experience as a Cadet Shipping Observer.
