(Hours per week: 45+)

• Maintains qualifications to enter ABSL2, ABSL3 and ABSL4 labs.
• Performs functions utilizing bio-hazardous substances.
• Maintains knowledge of biohazard operations and systems.
• Determines appropriate animal housing systems according to specific regulations according to Guide.
• Assists principal investigator in preparation of technical/surgical procedure(s) and may assist in procedure if required.
• Provides daily husbandry care including feeding and sanitation and for non-humane primates and multiple small species as directed.
• Perform specialized technical procedures on non-human primates and other animals infected with variety of diseases.
• Use appropriate techniques and apply knowledge of quarantine, isolation and containment procedures pertinent to appropriate bio-safety levels to prevent cross-infections of animals during experiments and to prevent infection of incumbent.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive laboratory records involving technical procedures performed, summarizing reports on animal health issues, bring significant deviations or problems noted to attending veterinarian.
• Maintain animal caging in laboratory including High containment Labs (BSL4).
• Monitored animals for signs of disease, illness, or injury and communicated concerns to Principal Investigator or veterinarian.

• Monitors daily animal health and welfare.
• Collects blood, urine and other required specimens from animals as requested for medical research.
• Assists with restraint and handling of various animal species.
• Receives, inspects, and puts away incoming animals.
• Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines.
• TB testing and handling of non-human primates.
• Maintain animal caging by performing daily cleaning routine and routine cage changes.
• Strengthened communication skills through regular interactions with others.

• Sorted and handled biohazard waste
• Spearheaded safe and efficient handling and disposal of environmental waste.
• (Pathological, BSL1, BSL2, BSL3)
• Documented eyewash inspections.
• Distributed personal protective equipment.
• Inspected waste pretreatment, treatment and disposal facilities and systems for conformance to federal, state or local regulations.
• Gained extensive knowledge in data entry, analysis and reporting.

• Performed basic wound care and other medical aid, working with veterinarians to handle advanced cases.
• Collected, prepared and labeled samples for laboratory testing, culture, and microscopic examination.
• Cleaned and disinfected exam areas, surgical equipment, and kennels to prevent diseases and control odors.
• Managed inventory, ordered new supplies and maintained optimal storage to meet expected needs.
• Administered medications to animals in treatment and documented changes in condition.
