Research and Quality Improvement Activities

  • Served as a member of a small team who created and implemented a Surgery Rounding Tool within EPIC to use during morning rounds, which aids in ease of collecting morning data (I/O's, vitals, labs, imaging) to improve patient care and plan for daily interventions. Completed in April 2025.
  • Currently serving on a small group committee to complete a data review and analysis of followup care for pediatric patients with solid organ injuries. Will use this data to create a protocol for the followup care of these patients to include frequency of clinic visits, lab monitoring, and imaging.

Teaching Contributions

  • Educate bedside nursing staff on various surgical management of the pre and postoperative patient and take time to collaborate with them to explain the disease processes, order management, and plan of care for pediatric surgical patients
  • Provide education and orientation to residents, interns, medical students while on rotations with the TACS or PSS services. This includes orientation and education to the services, EPIC documentation, rounding, and oral presentations
  • On a daily basis, I educate and collaborate with families on their child's disease process, management plan, anticipated needs and/or discharge education
  • Educate and inform various collaborating teams/MD's/services on the plan of care and priority interventions for shared surgical patients
