  • Manage new tank construction and tank repair projects from start to finish.
  • Receive bid inquiries, analyze the inquiry, assess particulars about the job including asking and understanding clarification from the customer, making site visits including attending bid walks and bid meetings, collaborate with the field tank division team, and provide an estimate to the customer.
  • Lead the field tank division team by directing responsibilities among the field tank division office personnel once awarded a project by relaying pertinent details to the key people among the group once awarded the project.
  • Collaborate with the engineering staff to provide a solution that best suits the applicable project situation including ensuring the material selection, tank design etc meets customer expectations as well as ensure the project is on or under budget.
  • Join in with construction management personnel to assign appropriate manpower and equipment for the project, including instructing field supervisors of the scope of work.
  • Interview new hires i.e. consult with quality control regarding new hire weld testing etc and assign pay rate to field tank division new hire employees.
  • Communicate daily or weekly activities as applicable regarding the project to the customer including scheduling the work.
  • Tracking the project as it progresses to ensure the correct time frame is given to the customer, and that the project stays on or under budget.
  • Close out the project once complete including seeing that the correct invoicing is sent to the customer throughout the entire project.
  • Direct key sales personnel to effectively maintain existing business relationships as well as develop new customer relationships.
  • Communicate status of projects and upcoming projects to upper management.

Duties in the field ranged from welder's helper to bull ganger including jumping scaffold, hanging iron, fitting iron, tacking, running a cutting torch, rigging, flagging, and being a valued member of the tank crew from start to finish. My experience in the field gave me the ability to read blueprints, and effectively understand the entire process on both sides of the business.
