Sustainability Studies Student offering strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Dynamic library professional with proven communication and public service skills honed in my 3 years at Middle Country Public Library. As a quick and eager learner, I would be excited to get the chance to strengthen new skills. Experienced with academic research, group projects, and time management ensures successful teamwork and project completion. I enjoy contributing to successful outreach initiatives and community engagement.
As a Public Service Clerk at the Middle Country Public Library I work with the librarians on the reference desks to assist patrons with a number of tasks and questions. I am frequently providing efficient assistance with locating materials and resources as well as helping patrons with technology both in person and over the phone. I often have to conduct research to find answers to the complex questions that patrons have asked. I have gained skills of working with various software including Excel, Canva, and the Cricut machine. I have also participated in outreach where I discuss with the public about library events and resources.
As a College Aide in the office of Academic Affairs I worked closely with the Deans of Academic Affairs to aid students with their academic inquiries. I processed important documents for students, working with the heads of each Academic department to get students' requests approved. In the position I became very familiar with evaluating transcripts, needing to pay close attention to detail. I also answered phone calls and directed foot traffic in the office. This position strengthened by public service and communication skills as I often had to interact with both students and parents who could be frustrated and impatient.
As a Children's Library page at the Middle country Public Library, I maintained the organization and order of the library, shelving and organizing books and putting toys and other materials from the library back where they belong. I completed tasks for the librarians including any simple projects they may need assistance with, along with many other tasks that contributed to the general functioning of the library. I helped out during special events like our Youth Abilities Day and our Great Give Back where I did things like planting bulbs and making items for nursing and animal shelters. I also fed, cleaned and groomed the library's two guinea pigs and lizards.
communication
I spent 3 weeks in Ireland on a winter Study Abroad trip where we studied the rich history and culture of the country. Having this experience made me a more adaptable person, being able to navigate unfamiliar environments and cultures and adjust to new situations and challenges. It has also made be more proficient in communicating across cultural barriers as well as fostering my sense of global awareness and independence.
At Stonybook University, I frequently participate in events for the Environmental Club. These include club meetings and events and on and off campus clean ups.
