- I work at a residential program for people ages 11 to 17 who struggle with psychiatric and neurological issues on a 63 acre ranch with eight units. Im a Mental Health Technician. My role is to keep children safe from themselves and others. Teaching them coping skills to implement in everyday life. Getting them on a daily regiment to help them structure their life more efficiently. I spend the entire day with patients. I record daily progress notes with every patient in my care. At the end of my shift I do data entry and shift progress reports. I currently work double shifts and I am core staff on my unit which is someone who is responsible for that unit. I work hand in hand with therapist and nurses to give the children the necessary skills to reach their goals. I also worked in administration in the intake department and working the switchboard answering the phones speaking to therapist doctors and potential patients parents to see if they qualify by verifying insurance and are fit for our program.
