Personal Philosophy Statement:
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, my goal is to focus on patient-centered care. I will treat the patient as a whole, including their emotional, mental and social health. As a provider I will advocate for each patient and help them navigate through the healthcare system. Respecting patients' autonomy and providing compassion. Being aware and sensitive to different cultures. As a provider, I will appropriately diagnose and prescribe the right patient, drug, dose, route, and time. Sometimes life can cause eruptions in our lives and that is when a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner like myself can help overcome hurdles. Whether it's with medication management or referring for psychotherapy.
After the first initial psychiatric evaluation, my overall goal will be to focus on what the client would like to treat first. Typically clients come in with multiple symptoms, but it would be important to narrow down which one is the most bothersome to the client. I plan to prescribe the right medication, in the lowest dose possible, for the shortest amount of time especially if the medication is habit forming. I look forward to helping and giving back to the community one patient at a time.
Personal goals: My short-term goals are to help the client become stable whether with inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations or medication management and to follow up within short increments of time. My long-term goals consist of developing a strong rapport with my clients to build trust and effectively prescribe and treat all symptoms with as little psychotropic medications as possible for less potential of fewer side effects.
Self-assessment: I am currently a brand new psychiatric nurse practitioner but with the appropriate training, and applying the knowledge obtained from my masters program I will become more confident over time.
