My journey with cosmetology started at a young age, with a strong influence from my nana on my mom's side. She was a nail tech in the 50s, and a lot of my childhood was spent playing dress-up with her or in her makeup. I started doing her root touch-ups around the age of 10 and progressed to cutting my dad's hair at 12 or 13. Once in high school, my friends and I were obsessed with our hair, changing colors, and experimenting with makeup looks for whatever photo project I had that week.
When I turned 24 after some soul searching in NYC and Texas, I decided I wanted more out of my life and enrolled in cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell The School in Austin, Texas. From the first day, I was determined to be the best I could be at every task given to me. After the foundational skills were taught and I was moved to adaptive, we were given the opportunity to try out for phase two, an optional added learning program that gave more advanced lessons and real salon experience. We were assigned our own station, one client a day and more if time allowed. In this program I excelled at color work, including blonding techniques as well as cuts and upselling services such as hair treatments and take-home products. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my career in cosmetology. After a rocky first year, I finally got my footing and obtained my license in CA and am ready to enter the salon floor with new energy and motivation for my future. My long-term goals are to one day have my own salon or even a product line would be amazing.
