GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The mission of The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center is to serve all youth of Orange County by providing quality outdoor educational programs that instill in them an appreciation of the outdoors and the environment, teach effective teamwork, instruct about the cultural history of Orange County and provide access to the natural resources of the surrounding areas. This 210-acre outdoor education center owned and operated by the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, is located in Orange, California and accessible through Irvine Regional Park. The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center (IROEC) features half-day through five-day overnight academic and recreational programming. Our hands-on approach to outdoor education allows participants to explore the outdoors and science while developing creativity, leadership skills and a respect for the environment.

REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able to fulfill the Essential requirements of the Instructor position
* Four-year degree in a field relating to education. Equivalent relevant work experience may be acceptable.
* Minimum age requirement is 18.
* Demonstrated experience working with children in an organized educational or recreational setting.
* Ability to work overnight programs and occasional weekends.
* Ability to work independently.
* Implement quality academic programs aligned with curriculum standards Next Generation Standards and Common Core.
* Maintains certification in Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED.

JOB DUTIES

* Willing to work with all age groups, elementary, middle school, high school, and adult programming.
* Ability to positively maintain a focused learning environment in a variety of situations and settings.
* Exceptional attention to detail concerning participants needs.
* Comfortable leading songs, skits, and large group games.
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of California natural and cultural histories. Uses teaching techniques to dynamically present the facts and underlying principles of these disciplines to student.s
* Ensure that safety and protocol are followed in accordance to American Camp. Association and the Boy Scouts of America.
* Works with supervisors to resolve participant behavior problems.
* Assists in the maintenance of equipment.
* Assists the program director/leads in the overall administration of the program.
* Assists the program director/leads in implementing new curriculum .
* Assists with training with new and returning staff.
* Participates in Irvine Ranch and Orange County Boy Scouts Of America staff meetings, trainings, and enhancement activities.
* Interacts professionally with colleagues and public.
* Works as part of a team with other IROEC staff members and uses interpersonal communication techniques to ensure the success of the program and positive work environment.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Hold duty phone, if applicant chooses to live Onsite.
