Dr. Jonathan D. Kurtis Lab

• Performing routine malaria parasite cell culture with p.falciparum species, including wild-type 3D7 dihydroartemisinin, chloroquine, mefloquine and pyrimethamine resistant strains.
• Performing routine mammalian cell culture with THP-1 human leukemia monocytic cell line.
• Designed and conducted cell viability assays; growth inhibition assays; and lactate-dehydrogenase assays as part of the anti-malarial drug discovery process and successfully attenuating the growth of resistant and drug-sensitive parasites by arresting and killing infected red blood cells with antimalarial treatment candidate.
• BCA protein assays, Western Blots; microscopy; lab-specific Standard Operating Procedures.
• Using GraphPad Prism and Flow Cytometry to perform quantitative analysis and interpret research data to draw conclusions on outcomes.

The EPICENTER LA Lab

• Worked in a team setting to develop a website for emergency and disaster preparedness via publishing informational articles and infographics.
• Analyzed the effects of natural disasters and their relationships with epidemiology and bioterrorism.
• Delegated writing and research tasks to research team members and overseeing their papers’ composition, revision, and publication.
• Completed a research paper on the topic of whether COVID-19 has exacerbated antimicrobial resistance under the guidance of Dr. Peter Katona, professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health.

UCLA Residential Life

• Counseled and advised residents with personal and academic-related matters, including roommate conflicts, academic difficulties, and crisis intervention.
• Provided active, on-call duty coverage of residential community, by enforcing housing conduct policies and emergency response for a community of 700+ residents.
• Served as the team's primary duty scheduler, consisting of scheduling and assigning duty shifts, mitigating scheduling conflicts, and ensuring an even distribution of assignments.
• Promoted to Lead Resident Assistant position for 2021-2022 academic year to mentor new staff members and serve as a conduit between team and supervisors.

• Developed comprehensive outreach and communication strategies for addressing vaccine hesitancy across Azerbaijan by collaborating closely with project leads and national professional officers.
• Supported all office experts in identification, conception, and implementation of activities and local health initiatives, including the EU/WHO Solidarity for Health Initiative Project.
• Coordinated technical and administrative support by handling correspondence, contracts, and budgets.

• Implemented educational programs and events for a community of 900+ residents to assist residents in academic success, personal and career development, and social justice awareness.
• Created marketing materials such as flyers and social media posts for building-wide events and improved the relevancy and accuracy of the office’s website.
