Work History

Health and Wellness Director

Williamsport YMCA
Williamsport, PA
07.2022 - Current
  • I was Honored when the YMCA came to me with the opportunity to become the Wellness Director of our Flag Ship Fitness Facility, the lead Facility in our family of 6 Gyms. I currently have expanded our training staff to 10 personal Trainers and currently see over 64 employee's from Fitness attendant staff, to group exercise instructors. I feel our team runs smoothly and efficiently, with a well maintained Fitness Floor and over 4000 Members in our Facility.
  • I believe as a leader, I need to show initiative when on the floor. No job is to big or to small for me, from picking up stray cleaning cloths, to handling and defusing conflicts in the gym area. I also hold an open door policy where my staff feels comfortable with discussing and issues, or problems they may have. Together we either try to work out a solution, or sometimes I believe they just want to be heard.
  • Overseeing ongoing professional development opportunities for staff members to stay current on industry trends and best practices. Looking for Gaps in what we offer and finding the best staff to fill, or be trained to fill those needs.
  • I have worked on and developed many of our community oriented programs like our Live Strong Cancer Survivor Program, I helped develop and Launch our Vet Strong Program to help Veterans get back to healthy, with personalized fitness programming and free gym memberships for the whole family. We also offer more community programs like our Wellness Initiative where people who can't afford personal training, can get help with getting healthy, learning healthy habits, and training techniques that also help with improving mental health. Another Program that works hand in hand with our local hospital is our Joint Replacement Program. Helping those getting Surgery receive membership and guidance prior to and after their surgery to increase recovery success and overall strength and mobility.
  • Developed comprehensive health education materials for diverse populations, promoting preventive healthcare practices.
  • Established strategic partnerships with community organizations to provide accessible healthcare options for underserved populations. For example working with our local food bank, community garden, animal shelter and more!
  • Developed Community Events that helped those in need like: Turkey day Coat Drive, giving a free Thanksgiving Day Workout for anyone who donated a new or gently used coat, hat or mittens. Children's Winter Carnival: a Free Event for our area kids, with games, prizes, and of course Santa and hot chocolate. Back to School Block Party: We obtained and stuffed over 500 backpacks from donation and give them to the children in the community, but also hold games, have food trucks, music, really focusing on bringing the community together! Cupcakes for a Cause: Of course I had to bring Baking into my Wellness Job, I donate all my time and materials and bake of 250 Dozen cupcakes (I have held this several times!) giving the profits to our Cancer and Veteran Programs.
  • Increased overall employee productivity through the development and execution of targeted wellness initiatives. Partnering Employee's at the YMCA with our professional personal trainers, to give workouts, and nutritional advise so they can utilize our work place and lead a healthy lifestyle.
  • Promoted a culture of wellness within the organization, leading workshops on stress reduction, nutrition, and exercise. Promoting Grief Counseling for Families and loved ones, Art Classes for Stress Relief and Creativity, Different styles of Yoga and Meditation Classes to also increase mental and physical health.
  • Led a team of dedicated professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to enhance their skills and performance levels. I have tried very hard to promote the individualism of each of my staff, and encourage them to stand out to members and clients. Pairing certain trainers with certain Members to maximize their potential. Also promoting staff to different management levels, to help navigate communication and facility issues.
  • Launched successful health promotion campaigns targeting specific demographics within the community, raising awareness about relevant health issues. Again I used my love of Marketing to Promote my staff and all of our wonderful Programs and offerings. I think that used correctly social media can be a huge asset.
  • Cultivated a positive work environment by fostering open communication, collaboration, and respect among all team members. Making sure the staff has a "place of their own" to safely store personal items and rest between shifts, or meet with clients.
  • Streamlined facility operations by implementing effective management strategies and improving staff communication. Communication is the Key to success on every level, so weekly updates, texts if schedules change, we make sure that all bases are covered so our floor runs smooth.
  • Managed budgets and resources effectively, ensuring optimal allocation of funds towards essential health services. Increasing our Wellness Budget with implementing new programs, fundraising, and increased Personal training staff. We have met and exceeded monthly revenue and training goals, and are excited to keep growing.

Active Lover of all things Outdoors, Horseback riding, Hiking, Fishing, Hunting, Skiing

I was raised in a small town in Northern Michigan on our amazing Family Farm.  This is where I developed my sense of adventure, Love for Life, and fully realize just how strong I really was.  We would bale over 70,000 small bales of hay a summer (in Northern Michigan that is almost 3 months lol), with only my immediate family to work the family and handle each and everyone of those bales.  Not only did we do hay, but we raised beef cattle, had horses, and every thing that makes small town America amazing.

I love being outdoors, especially with my 2 horses, Waylon and Wyatt as much as possible. We have trekked all over America, trail riding all over PA, MI and Colorado.  I have taken them into the High Country with me when my niece and I worked summer camps.  I also love hiking, fishing, and hunting.  Skiing and Snowshoeing are also some of my favorite winter sports.  But in the summer we deep sea fish off the coast of VA in a small town called Chincoteague.  This is where a lovely herd of Wild Ponies live, there is nothing better than floating up to a mare an foal on your SUP and taking in the Sunset.

I love to have an adventure, and to share it with others.  I often encourage to step outside their comfort zone to have an adventure of their own as often as possible.   I believe is good for the body, heart and soul.

A Special Note about the The Springs Resort

Dear Todd,

I have to tell you, EVERY time we are in Colorado we stay at the Springs.  It truly is a healing and peaceful place, and I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to speak with you about further employment at your amazing facility.   Pagosa Springs is very like my home town of Gaylord Michigan.  Highly Tourist dependant, with multiple seasons and variations of income and revenue.  Becoming even more of a part of the community, and forging relationships with people who make a living in Southwest Colorado would be a dream.

I have many ideas that I believe would flourish in your area and that I would love to share with you.   I sincerely try to make everyday opportunity a learning lesson.  I may have a very interesting resume, but no matter what, I will always bring something positive to the table no matter where I land.

We feel very comfortable living officially in Pagosa, as my husband and I see this as our special Retirement Area.  He is a very talented Welder, and with the decline of the Natural Gas Industry in PA we both believe this may be the sign to head west.

Please feel free to call my references, and if you would like to schedule a call or zoom you can reach me at 989-390-3974 or coachnik@outlook.com.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

Nikki Fiel
