- This unit is considered Med Surg unit that holds up to 22 to 24 patients. On this unit Nurse and PCT job is consistent. Patient Care Tech assist each patient with their needs and make sure each patient is safe. Patient needs sometimes consist of turning every two hours, assist patients to the bathroom, changing or just sips of water. After all of their needs are meet or in the process I'm getting their vitals or accu checks. I also document the information in meditec. If a patient have a procedure I have to prep the patient for the procedure. I also have to perform EKG's on specific patients. I also collect specimens for the lab for specific patients for test. There has also been opportunites to transport patients to and from different test X-ray, MRI, CT and to other units. Part of a PCT job description also is to perform unit clerk duties when needed answering ringing phones, call bell and calling for certain information. I'm also CPR certified and very aware of HIPPA law and violations.
