The experiences I have had both in work and life have given me a wide variety of skills that would be helpful to any animal hospital. I have dealt with all kinds of people and am comfortable communicating with them in person or on the phone. My work and volunteering in medical fields given me a background that provides an understanding of terms and procedures. As a student athletic trainer, a ski patroller and wildlife rehabber I have gained a wealth of knowledge that would prove useful in an animal hospital setting. My original plan was to work as a vet tech after retiring from teaching but life got in the way. I enjoy working with animals and would love to help in any way.
I am currently teaching two youth (ages 5-11) art classes and one adult special needs art class. I design and teach art projects and skills associated with a variety of materials.
As a rehabilitator I treat and care for injured and orphaned wildlife. I am licensed through NYSDEC and USFWS to rehab mammals and birds. I typically care for small mammals such as squirrels, rabbits and opossums as well as birds including songbirds, waterfowl and raptors.
I manage the day to day duties of feeding, cleaning and medicating animals as well as overseeing my volunteers that help with the duties. As a not-for-profit organization, I am keeping records and dealing with the financial aspects of purchasing, fundraising and accounting. The needs of the animals often require interfacing with veterinarians at Mattydale Animal Hospital and Cornell Wildlife Clinic. I attend the annual conference of New York State Wildlife Rehabilitation Council to stay current on procedures and information in the world of wildlife rehab.
I taught Biology, Earth Science and Environmental Science over a 33 year career. My experience was with students from 7th to 12th grade. I developed lessons based on state curriculum and provided learning experiences that brought science to life. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching.
As part of the pet care team, I helped to run the boarding facility at the hospital. Our duties included walking, feeding and cleaning the cages of the boarding dogs and feeding a cleaning the cats that were boarding. We also did dishes, mopped and cleaned the entire hospital, did laundry and removed trash. I was taking online classes at the time for veterinarian technician. It was a great experience to get to know the workings inside a practice. I did have some experience working with the computer system during that time.

My hobbies are many and varied. I have been a lifetime crafter doing anything from sewing and knitting to painting and card making.
I volunteered as a ski patroller at Highland Forest for over 30 years. This experience required me to use my skills as a first aider, teacher and administrator. I cared for injured skiers, helped in searches for missing persons and helped skiers along the trail. I also served in a leadership and administrative role for years.
