• 10-week clinical externship with experiences across acute care and outpatient settings
• Administered formal and informal evaluations of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing including modified barium swallow studies (MBSS)
• Provided evidence-based interventions to patients with voice disorders, head and neck cancers, tracheostomies, TBI, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Locked-In syndrome, and other acute medical diagnoses
• Collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team (including nurses, SLPs, OTs, and PTs) to further inform patient’s plan of care.

Pediatrics Dx/Tx: developmental disorders (down syndrome, autism, ADHD), speech sound disorders, language impairments

• Utilized formal and informal assessments and created research-driven treatment plans to identify and treat speech and language deficits to support language development
• Collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team (OT, classroom teacher, special education teacher) to plan interventions for children presenting with a variety of developmental diagnoses (ADHD, Autism)

Adults Dx/Tx: traumatic brain injuries, gender-affirming voice, adult neurological diseases (primary progressive aphasia, progressive supranuclear palsy, Parkinson's disease), dysarthria

• Administered formal and informal evaluation measures to adults to assess cognitive-communication skills following a mild traumatic brain injury or neurological disease, and provided individualized recommendations for academic accommodations, further testing, and treatment
• Provided evidence-based treatment that included symptom management strategies and metacognitive strategy instruction to help with executive functioning, word-retrieval, and short-term and long-term memory tasks
• Coached caregivers through communication strategies, including AAC use, to support their communication with individuals with aphasia
• Evaluated voice function using objective and perceptual observations to provide a prognosis for therapy in gender-affirming voice and Parkinson’s patients.

• Observed clinical swallow evaluations with tracheostomy and ventilator-dependent patients and witnessed the collaboration between respiratory and speech therapists to treat a tracheostomy-dependent head-and-neck cancer patient.
