My position at the aquarium puts me in front of the public.
My different duties include being a conductor on a 'magic' train, giving behind-the-scenes tours, and being the voice of a talking, cartoon otter using a virtual reality control set.
I also work at the habitats throughout the Aquarium and give guests information on the many species that we have, including eight different species of sharks.
I take guests on a tour through the exhibit area and the loading zone while give them a history of the Arch and the Tram system. I also assist guests at the top by answering any questions they had pertaining to the Arch or showing them various sights in St. Louis that they might be trying to find. Thirdly, I scan tickets for the guests as they got in line for the tram tour.
At the beginning of the day I set up the iPads and microphones the tour guides use on their tours. I scan the temperatures of the tour guides and get them set up for the day. I also get the cashier in the lower ticket center set up with their bank.
Once we have guests, I send the first tour off and get the tram set up to be used for the day. During the day I check on the tram periodically to see how tours are going and to make sure we have our scheduled cleaning tram.
While the tours are going on, I work on getting things ready for the end of the day and for the next day. These include making the next days positions and preparing microphones and trip count sheets. I also work on any projects that the office managers have for me.
At the end of the day, I determine which tour will be the last one. Once that tour is going up to the top, I put away the iPads and microphones and turn off the projectors. I also cash out the cashier and tell the ticket sales supervisor how many trips the tram did that day.
