A high school graduate, I began my working career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ma. where I was employed for 16 years in various positions. The last of which was as a Post Payment Utilization Review Representative responsible for conducting reimbursement audits of physician practices, calculating and executing recoupment when applicable. I subsequently went to nursing school and earned both an Associates and Bachelors degree. I began my nursing career at the Lemuel Shattuck hospital as a staff nurse on a TB unit and also floated to all the Med/Surg units. I then became the Admission Screening Nurse, Discharge Planning Nurse, Case management Nurse, Nurse Manager of the TB unit, Correctional Health Med/Surg unit, ICU and the Vascular Access Team.
As the Admission Screening Nurse I was responsible for receiving admission referral requests from other hospitals, on-site chart reviews, interviewing patients and hospital staff, presenting findings to an admission physician, explaining reasons for declining admission and arranging for the transfer of the patient. I also prepared yearly statistical analysis of screening activity.
