Being a Butcher is what I do back home in between jobs for my family's business. We are a Family Owned and Operated business providing the community with the service of butchering and processing your meat animals, we butcher most animals from Beef, Pork, Lamb, Goat and even Wild game.
The current things I do here at the Feedlot include, Riding my pens to check all cattle for signs of any illness, infection, and lameness. I am also are responsible for calving, milking, shipping / receiving cattle, Processing large amounts of cattle at once, keeping processing barns clean, cleaning water troughs, and keeping pens clean with the skid steer. This job requires me to be knowledable with differnent illnesses in cattle as well as identifying the proper medicine to adminster in differnt situations and dosage.
At Nevada Livestock Marketing my work includes both sale barn and outside ranch work.
Sale Barn duties includes: Sorting cattle off trucks by sex, color, and size, keeping an eye out for lame cattle and any sort of illness they might have, keeping track of owners cattle, working in a timely and efficient manner during big specials and sales, using proficient time management to keep gates running smoothly on horseback so cattle can flow.
Ranch hand portion includes: Working on owners personal outside country gathering pairs, branding, and hauling cattle if needed.
My duties as a loper for Tom included , routine daily exercise of horses to maintain a performance ready mind set and physique, daily feeding routines of cattle and horses, making sure all horses where maintaining good overall health and watching for signs of any lameness and or illness in the barn, cleaning stalls daily to maintain clean space for horses, working colts for upcoming futurity's, turning back , washing/ grooming horses daily before and after rides, blanketing at night and mornings, working horses on the flag, and assisting at shows.
My duties here included , Guided trail rides and ensuring safety while on trails, Educating groups of people on proper riding and horse care, took care of all dude string horses and helped get new horses broke to the trail.
At Rex Ranches my duties included but not limited to, Riding through 750 First calf heifers to ensure and maintain herd heath and safety , checking waters, rotating pastures to ensure proper cattle nutrition, running hotwire, fixing and maintaining fences through out the ranch, branding calves, and identifying any lameness/ illness doctoring cattle when needed.
Veterinary Assistant duties included, Driving the vet truck from client to clients house, Providing Vet with proper tools during any surgery or task, Cleaning surgical instruments to prevent spread of bacteria from animal to animal, displayed customer service skills by taking client phone calls, helped with the proper restraint of animals while sedation was given, assisted with floating horses teeth, lameness checks, bangs vaccinating cattle in chute, dehorning cattle with hot tools, helped with castrating cattle and equine, caring for equine for overnight stays to ensure the improvement of health, hauled hay and water, assisted in the breeding of equine as well as preg checks in cattle and equine.
Being in a ranching/farming family, I take the safety of myself and well as the animals and others I am working with or on into consideration I have been roping since I was little , branding, and doctoring outside My horsemanship skills have improved since I was a child, working with a cutting horse trainer for a summer I have experience roping in small areas,
or in open areas, as well as vaccinating livestock in the chute, giving shots or tagging ears, and dehorning Having good help with me is very important to get the job done in an orderly fashion if it is available I am willing to teach co-workers properly, correctly and safety around chutes and or livestock I am comfortable with working well with others or by myself I have a
working dog that comes with me when we gather large areas, to move
cattle to new pastures, when need be I can read cattle very well when
sorting, or in a larger area to identify if injured or unwell I can drive a 6- speed manual pulling a trailer behind myself I can change a tire on a trailer or on a truck Last November I had the opportunity to work at the Nevada Livestock Marketing LLC Sale barn and ranches I have gained more
experience in learning how to handle cattle with different flight sizes
Processing through a chute and sorting cattle for sexes, size and coloring on horse back and on foot I am no stranger to long days in the saddle or doing what needs to be done for a smooth operation
