My good friend is the Regional VP who invited me to help bring the "Intent to Recommend" scores up for this property. I developed an action plan and we were well underway within 6 months. I stayed to complete tasks, and after the first year, I had set the hotel up for success for him.
Dr. Rao Yedla was my mentor and I had a great deal of respect for him. He passed away and I took this very hard. My good friend was the Regional VP at Helix Hospitality. He invited me to join him and turn-around the Residence Inn Huntsville. I left to help him, which in turn helped me.
This was a small property, which held it place in the market for the full 8 years I was there. We exceeded revenue and RevPAR expectations year-after-year. Dr. Rao Yedla called me with an opportunity in Foley, Alabama; we parted on great terms. They have since called to invite me to return.
This was my first opportunity to work at a 1 star motel. I learned a great deal. It was not possible for me to provide the level of service, I felt guests deserved. When the opportunity in Dothan became available, I moved.
