I have been serving under an extended temporary promotion for the Customer Service Branch (CSB) performing all the duties of a GS-2210-09. During my time with the CSB, I have answered chat calls, worked on help tickets and assisted customers at our walk-up help desk. I have also assisted the mobility manager as a backup setting up, issuing, explaining how to use the phone and the mobile hotspot and receiving returned mobile phones. I am currently working within the printer refresh group by performing maintenance on repairable printers, applying security features to printers (STIGGING) and replacing printers that are on the refresh list with new machines and setting them up as well.
(December 1998 to Present 20 hours/week) Performed planning and maintaining system upgrades to files and hardware to control all aspects of system operations. I have prepared new computers, laptops and peripherals (printers, external drive, etc.) for personal customers. Performed computer systems security support functions. Reviewed personal computers in remediation and applied the appropriate security measures. I implemented new and changed IT hardware/software as needed or when wanting to do an upgrade on the system. Personally, I implement appropriate patches and security settings on desktops and laptops. I test and analyze computer malfunctions using bench testing methods to resolve physical and operating problems. I use information available that encompasses the planning, design, acquisition, implementation, and management of all the elements that deal with the IT infrastructure. Installed, operated and maintained various IT equipment, such as personal computers, copiers, optical drives, peripherals and printers. I have tested, installed and upgraded from already assembled systems as well as from bare cases, motherboards, video, sound and expansion cards, hard drives, solid state drives and M.2 solid state drives, core processing units (CPU’s), memory chips (RAM), optical and floppy drives, power supply units and fans. I make effective use of information technology. I have performed security support functions, reviewed systems that were in remediation and applied the proper security patches and measures to secure the systems. Installed, operate and maintain IT equipment including desktops, laptops, printers, external drives and routers/modems and oversee all network devices. Personally worked with personal customers performing plans to ensure that systems they are looking to purchase will meet their needs and properly operate while evaluating using new technologies for systems that they already own but want to add or enhance the system. I have mentored and volunteered my time to help others on how to build their own computers to suit their needs. I have explained how to test equipment to verify that it is functioning properly, and that all hardware will work together. I have also explained the pros and cons to pre-built versus home-built systems. I have explained to friends what procedures exist between passwords, firewalls, virtual private networks (VPNs) and wireless network usage, as well as explaining what needs to be done to ensure security when connecting mobile devices. On a regular basis, I am asked about computer issues that fellow employees have at home while at break, lunch and sometimes on off duty
times. I am asked for suggestions on upgrade. I have worked with and used all Microsoft operating systems up to and including Windows 11.
