- Served as 1 A/E during regulatory shipyard period in Philadelphia. Interacted extensively with shipyard management, contractors and ABS surveyors. Developed a much greater understanding of the ship's layout, construction and major equipment.

- The constant rotation of crews, ships and schedules required lots of flexibility, and the ability to work with and train new unlicensed subordinates including wipers, OS and oilers.

- Acted as sole company representative in shipyard setting on several occasions. Successfully coordinated shipyard crews, outside contractors, ABS and USCG inspectors.
- Overhaul experience with Bergen B32, Colt-Pielstick PC2, and EMD 645 main engines, and Cat 398, 399 and EMD 645 generators. Served as assistant crew leader on EMD overhauls.
- Experience with Kamewa CPP systems, shaft alternators, load sharing medium speed diesels, and electronic upgrades to Woodward PGA governor controls.
