Samyak Dhruv

Wilkes-Barre,Pennsylvania

Summary

I am currently an internal medicine hospitalist with a keen interest in gastroenterology and hepatology. I have authored over 25 articles in prestigious journals. Recently, I received approval for my EB-1A green card petition. This is when USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) recognizes contributions of a researcher to the United States and expedites the US green card process. Additionally, I have been honored with two 'Outstanding Poster Presenter Awards' at ACG 2020. My career goal is to advance research in gastroenterology and to prevent the development of hepatocellular carcinoma by adjusting screening guidelines for patients with liver cirrhosis.

Work History

Hospitalist

Geisinger
Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
07.2024 - Current
  • I currently work at Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) Medical Center. It is a 309-bed, level I trauma center that provides care for seriously ill patients in more than 50 specialty and subspecialty areas. With the immense capacity and availability of highly specialized care, we rarely have to transfer a patient to another hospital.l.

Hospitalist

MedStar Health
Leonardtown, MD
07.2021 - 06.2024
  • This is the highest level of clinical experience in my medical career. After finishing residency in 2021, I worked as an attending hospitalist at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital. This hospital provides care to a highly medically underserved population in rural Maryland. I completed around 1,200 medical admissions from the emergency room in three years including diverse medical pathologies. We had daily interdisciplinary rounds that included coordinating care with the nursing team, case management, and rehabilitation services. This allowed me to grow confidence in my clinical expertise and understand the collaborative approach to patient care. Helping the medically underserved population has always been my dream. Working as an attending gave me different aspects of clinical exposure such as, financial reimbursements and hospital quality metrics preparing me for independent clinical practice.

Medical Extern

MedStar Health
Hollywood, MD
09.2016 - 10.2016
  • I always wanted to have a rural experience in America to balance the urban experiences. As part of my rural exploration, I decided to do a rotation as an Extern in rural Maryland in pulmonary and sleep medicine. I participated in the evaluation of patients by taking the history, performing physical examination, interpreting lab data, and imaging studies. I also gained competency using the EMR Cerner. As my first experience practicing medicine in rural America, I became appreciative of the differences in clinical practices related to resource availability between rural, urban, and suburban settings.

Medical Student

Mount Sinai
New York, NY
07.2016 - 08.2016
  • I had hands-on experience in infectious disease with Dr. Carlos Salama at Elmhurst hospital in Queens, NY. I had the opportunity to discuss cases like pulmonary tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C, and several AIDS-defining illnesses. Dr. Salama gave me the nickname 'Encylcopedia' after recognizing my photographic memory. We had lectures and discussions about antibiotics and their use in modern practice and the changing scenario of bacterial resistance. This clinical experience was meaningful because it was my first rotation in America. As Elmhurst hospital is the most demographically diverse medical facility in the world with a highly multilingual and multicultural patient population, it prepared me for clinical practice anywhere in the country.
