The Director of Nursing is responsible for the effective operation of the nursing department at Salud, including program development; hiring, training and supervision of nursing staff; and implementation of nursing functions. This position has responsibility for compliance and risk management in the areas of nursing protocols, medical assistant job duties and in-house lab testing, ensuring that Salud meets federal, state and other requirements for clinic licensing, Medi-Cal managed care etc. The Director of Nursing is a member of the medical leadership team for Salud, and participates in Medical Director, Quality Improvement, and Department Head meetings.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. Hiring, training, supervision and performance evaluation for all registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, health coaches and other staff as required.
  • 2. With Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Clinic Operations develop nursing roles; develop and implement care management program including care teams, health coaches, etc.
  • 3. Perform nursing functions as needed.
  • 4. Assure quality of clinical services provided by nurses, medical assistants and other staff including immunizations, lab tests, patient assessments, etc.
  • 5. Develop, implement, and monitor adherence to standing orders and clinical protocols governing the work of nurses and medical assistants and other clinical support staff.

Associate Director of Nursing-Point of Care

In addition to the responsibilities of a Nurse Manager, the Associate Director of Nursing-Point of Care oversees policies related to point of care testing, oversees labs policy and meeting protocols and attends Operations and Quality Improvement meetings. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Nursing- Medical Assisting, oversees the supervision and training of the medical assistants (CMA) including giving direction to the nurses who supervise the CMAs, coordinating evaluations, delivering training programs, overseeing licensing requirements that are related to medical assisting and working with the Union regarding issues concerning the CMAs.

  • Develops and updates policies related to point of care testing.

  • Oversees ongoing trainings to support implementation and adherence to point of care testing.

Care Team Nurse Manager

The Care Team Nurse Manager works within the clinical care team providing support in the delivery of patient care as well as direct patient care. The Care Team Nurse Manager utilizes nursing skills and judgement to triage patients and provide patient education, along with providing direct patient care such as medical procedures, immunizations and medication delivery. Additionally in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, the Care Team Nurse Manager provides supervision and guidance to certified medical assistants within the care team. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation) in patient care and daily activities. Provides comprehensive assessment and utilizes evidence based guidelines, along with insight of the nursing process, and a proven ability to critically analyze information from the patient and the patient chart in the decision making process.
  • Functions under standardized procedures or patient care protocols to provide independent patient care.
  • Administers medications and immunizations within scope of practice and with clinician's order.
  • Provides direct patient education, explains medical procedures, treatments, and medications to patients and families, and supervises the provision of patient education by certified medical assistants. Communicates based on patient's level of understanding and comprehension. Educates patients utilizing principles of active listening.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Nursing, supervises clinical care provided by certified medical assistants as assigned and trains certified medical assistants for clinical processes as directed.
  • Performs independent telephone or face to face triage using written triage protocols.
  • Under written orders, provides test results to patients and advice on treatment or follow-up.
  • Assures efficient patient flow by ongoing assessment of clinician schedule, and working with other staff to minimize patient waiting time.
  • Functions as Clinic Supervisor when assigned.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality and monitors confidentiality policy adherence for certified medical assistants and other support staff.
