  • Accountable for all operations with hospital-wide shift responsibility for a 360-bed acute care NFP hospital offering Level II Trauma and specialized pediatric services in the absence of facility administrators after hours and on weekends.
  • Leads interdisciplinary supervisory and support team in providing excellent care to patients during designated 12-hour shift; conducts detailed status briefings 4 times per shift, rounds on all units during intervening periods, and ensures that all care is compliant with TJC, CMS, CDPH and professional standards and is consistent with policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Initiates emergency operations as dictated by state and federal regulations and internal and external events requiring timely and appropriate response to ensure patient, caregiver, and facility safety while managing risks; assesses situations, determines priorities, directs resource utilization, coordinates deployment of staff within mandated ratios, documents actions and outcomes, follows incident throughout shift or to conclusion, and reports status to senior administrators including recommendations for system-wide changes.
  • Monitors all patient activity within the house, processes inputs regarding admissions and discharges, balances staffing and financial priorities, and makes and communicates decisions regarding patient placement to minimize wait times in the provision of care, maximize throughput of patients, ensure availability of beds upon admission, and enhance the patient experience.
  • Champions mission and values, forging and maintaining relationships with leadership at all levels within the facility and key players outside the facility, serving as a liaison and colleague with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and others as needed to efficiently and effectively manage operations within budget.
  • Directs nursing functions within Magnet Hospital guidelines, mentors Charge Nurses, Supervisors, and members of the care team, models behaviors that are essential to providing patients and families with the best care and experience possible, resolves practice issues and initiates corrective action as needed, and intervenes in sensitive human resources and customer service issues before they become major concerns.
  • Creates and provides CNO and designated administrators with status report of the house immediately by email if indicated and after each shift, including statistical patient and labor utilization data, significant events and response, recommendations for action and follow up, and other information necessary to assess performance relative to organization goals and objectives.
  • Routinely reviews, updates, and implements changes in policies and procedures; educates staff and communicates house wide initiatives, metrics and achievement of results; completes specialized improvement projects; and makes presentations to facility leadership.
