Shamus Fitzpatrick

Dade City,USA

Summary

Yes I'm Irish and before your hopes rise I do not have the accent (fingers crossed this factor doesn't cost me the job). Throughout my years in the workforce, I’ve worked a great many jobs. Some side hustles, some could’ve became careers. At this point in my life, the only job I’m interested in is one that pursues my passions. I am extremely detail oriented (my girlfriend would say OCD), have a sincere passion for seeing projects through to completion, and am extremely adaptable and teachable in any given environment. What I may lack in credit hours, I make up for with a never-ending desire to learn and aptitude for using brains with brawn. Adding me to your roster could truly strengthen the team-cohesion and overall work product output, but we’ll only know if we find out. Thank you for taking the time to read my resume, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Flooring Installer/ Foreman

Fitz Flooring
02.2016 - Current

Experience w/ Fitz Flooring

  • Within 2 years of starting as an extra set of hands, I worked up to installer and then crew leader (foreman as some jobs call it).
  • Traveled statewide for both commercial and residential flooring jobs.
  • Projects could be as small as a bedroom in a mobile home to entire retirement homes.
  • The jobs were arduous so I learned to appreciate a job well-done at the end of the day.
  • As a fourth-generation carpenter, I suppose it was destined the flooring life would choose me.

Takeaways from Flooring

  • Respect your tools - you want to keep using them don't you?
  • Stretch before physical activity - Zombieland rule no.18 (limber up).
  • Respect everyone. Treat the janitor the same as you would the CEO.

Environmental Specialist I

Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP)
12.2022 - 08.2023

Experience w/ FDEP

  • Worked within the compliance sector of the industrial wastewater (IW) and domestic wastewater (DW) programs, respectively, with the later addition of the Environmental Resource Program (ERP).
  • Conducted inspections and wrote the reports that would ultimately be filed as official records for the facilities/ individuals in question.
  • Inspections ranged from reconnaissance inspections (RI) that involved surveilling a property for environmental impacts to other inspections like Compliance Evaluation Inspections (CEI) which were mandatory for permit holders to continue operating within FDEP guidelines.
  • These spread across 9 different counties to facilities and properties of all sorts to inspect crucial elements of the plants that could adversely affect the environment.
  • Complaint investigations in which we received civilian calls regarding concerns for the environment and investigated thereafter, whether it be by making phone calls to representatives that could answer for the situation or by driving out the site itself to write a report.
  • From the FDEP I learned a multitude of professionalism skills and will continue to improve-on and implement them in jobs I take on.

My Takeaways from the FDEP

  • The desk and desktop aren't easily navigable if you aren't familiar with their layout (familiarization through organization).
  • Put yourself into the caller's shoes; just because they're calling with an attitude doesn't mean its directed at you (intentionally at least).
  • The importance of precise note-taking and double checking the finished product.

Scare Actor

Scream-a-Geddon
08.2018 - 11.2019

Experience w/ Scream-a-Geddon

  • This one is pretty straight-forward.
  • Show up an hour before the haunted house opens for costume, scare the living daylights out of patrons for 4-6 hours depending on the night, and collect that sweet bi-weekly paycheck with barely any breath to stand.
  • The job was go-go-go which boosted my stamina immensely along with my ability to see more clearly in the dark.
  • As profound as this might sound, in the right profession these skills are crucial.

Scream-a-Geddon taught me:

  • Time management throughout the day - I was working flooring at the time too so it was 5am thru 5pm flooring and 7pm thru 11pm or 1am Scream-a-Geddon, so my sleep time was very limited during season.
  • Spacial-awareness in dark places, namely around people and fragile objects (mirrors).
  • Situational awareness - who/what poses an issue to public safety.
  • The customer can't be right if they're running away.
