I have thrived in a high tempo operational environment throughout my career. I have excellent communication skills, tactical leadership, tactics and conflict resolution. I have maintained a Top Secret clearance but will lose that when I retire at the end of August 2025.
I began my career with the Marine Corps Reserves in 1987 and was assigned as a Machine Gunner in an Infantry company. I left the Marine Corps in 1989 and spent 4 years on active duty with the US Air Force as a Security Specialist. I returned to the Marine Corps Reserves in 1994 and retired in 2010 as a Gunnery Sergeant.
I spent approximately 12 years as a Platoon Sergeant. In 2003 my unit was activated for OIF where we participated in the invasion of Iraq. I led a reinforced rifle platoon consisting of 45 Marines and 2 Navy Corpsman during aggressive combat operations in Iraq, primarily in the Tigress River Valley. I led Marines during numerous firefights, cordon and clear operations and patrols. While most day to day operations were conducted at the squad and fire tam level I led 2-3 patrols daily in addition to other administration and logistical duties.
As a Platoon Sergeant I was responsible for training at the platoon, squad, and fire team level. I also conducted training to grow future leaders. I received an excellent combat fitness report following the depoyment.
I trained as a Security Specialist in the US Air Force and was initially assigned to HQ NORAD and US Space Command from 1990 to 1991 where I provided site security. This award came as a result of an armed confrontation with a barricaded fugitive with a violent criminal history wanted for attempted murder. Upon approach a residence the fugitive opened fire from inside the residence striking my team member 3 times. When he went down I stepped over his body and provided covering fire for his retreat to safety. While exchanging fire with the fugitive I was struck in the vest. After moving to cover I, as Team Leader, began coordinating local assistance and emergency evacuation. My team member made a full recovery and the fugitive survived to be sentenced to 35 years in a federal prison for assaulting federal officers,
