At 8 years old, my brother and I successfully created a non-profit organization named Friendship Wheels. Friendship Wheels is an organization that raises money to buy bikes for children in under-privileged communities. With the help of the Firemen's Cheer Fund, we distribute these bikes to children around Christmas. With the help of our mom, we were able to learn the necessary skills to eventually run our charity on our own at 15 years old. Over the past nine years, we have raised over $30,000 and bought over 350 bikes and toys for children in our community. The skills I learned from this experience are:
-Creating and running a donation website
-Organizing an annual bike ride to which I had to find volunteers, create a safe path for the riders, find riders for the bike ride, and raise money to buy signs, tables, safety forms, and food for the riders.
-Learning how to lawfully create a safety form.
-Learning how to advertise my organization in my community. This consisted of asking radio stations to interview us, creating flyers and distributing them in our community, and going into schools and businesses to talk about our charity.
-Working with a separate organization, the Firemen's Cheer Fund, to make sure the bikes we bought were the ones needed in the community.
