Global Goals Ambassador

United Nations Association Chicago
Chicago, IL
03.2022 - 05.2024

Volunteering and serving as a Global Goals Ambassador of UNA-Chicago to make the citizens of greater Chicago aware of the importance of the United Nations and serving as a subject matter expert about a particular UN Sustainable Development Goal (Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities).

  • Navigated and conducted research on "Food and Park Desserts in Chicago," trying to find a correlation between dessert areas and lower socioeconomic status.
  • Used ArcGIS, especially the 'join,' 'buffer,' 'symmetrical difference,' 'clip,' and 'intersect' tools, and created three templates in total: Food Desert Area with Poverty, Park Desert Area with Poverty, and All Desert Area with Poverty.
  • Intersect all desert areas with the socio-economic low class and find the neighborhood that needs more focus on helping its growth. I came up with a solution for making the economy active in that area.
  • It was chosen as the best innovative idea among the teams within UNA-USA Chicago.
  • Submit the completed project, due one week after the projects are completed.
  • Attend monthly Global Goals meetings, including program meetings, pillar meetings, and other Global Goals events as organized.
  • Attend the UN Day event and the planning committee for the Global Goals Awards.

Environmental City Planner

City of Hoboken
Hoboken, NJ
06.2023 - 08.2023

Redesigned a sustainable urban street and resiliency park in Hoboken, impacting 58,000 residents by addressing chronic flooding and enhancing climate resilience. Used ArcGIS, SketchUp, and AutoCAD to design flood sensors, permeable pavement, and green infrastructure. Collaborated with the mayor, residents, engineers, and architects to deliver data-informed, community-driven solutions that improve stormwater management and urban sustainability.

  • Work with the Mayor of Hoboken as an Environmental City Planner and Engineer of the government, focusing on environmental projects.
  • Focused on two major projects: the Sustainable Urban Street Project and the Northwest Resiliency Park.
  • I went on-site and checked how the city is designed to address Hoboken's location, which makes it susceptible to flooding, especially during heavy rains and coastal storms, as much of it is at or near sea level.
  • Environmental Reporting: Documenting reports, projects, and statistics for online reporting platforms.
  • Developing additional Green Team initiatives and attending optional monthly meetings.
  • Developing a GIS template for the Environmental Services to use moving forward. Using ArcGIS, make a template that shows the area where the sensors need to be located that gives notification when there is a water flooding event happening.
