Summary

I'm a highly motivated individual, good communicator with all people from all different aspects/walks of life, and excel in a teamwork setting. I have been with the Visalia Police Department since 2012, and I take pride in being part of the VPD family. I'm a Police Officer that's effective at taking leadership direction and constructive criticism from Sergeants/Superiors, as well as a mentor to younger/brand new Police Officers. I have a strong willingness to learn, and further my journey here at the Visalia Police Department. I have a high emphasis on teamwork, honesty, reliability, communication, and responsibleness. I believe these are essential qualities of successful law enforcement officers here at VPD.

Patrol Officer

  • Respond to emergency calls for service and provide assistance as needed.
  • Patrol assigned beat areas to detect and prevent criminal activity.
  • Investigate patrol-level crimes: family disturbances, burglaries, physical fights, grand thefts, petty thefts, auto thefts, assaults, welfare checks, traffic accidents, etc. accidents, etc.
  • Testify in court proceedings (i.e. preliminary hearings, jury trials).
  • Identify criminal activity, issue citations (warrant/cite outs/traffic citations), and arrest individuals.
  • Write detailed reports (that will be later used for preliminary hearings and jury trials).
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with the community, and positively interact with the citizens of Visalia.
  • Gather evidence at the scene of a crime (or crimes), interview victims/witnesses, and interview/interrogate suspects and conduct a thorough criminal investigation.

Field Training Officer (FTO) - 12/03/2019

  • Provide instruction and guidance to newly hired Police Officers.
  • Assist and monitor the progress of the trainee(s) through regular End of Shift Evaluations.
  • Maintain thorough records of all trainings, attendance, work log, and End of Shift Evaluations.
  • Communicate with trainees in the area(s) they are lacking in performance, and provide the tools necessary to overcome the deficit and become successful, independent Police Officers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the Visalia Police Department.

UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System, AKA Drone) Team - 07/13/2020

  • Operate the UAS in accordance with the FAA regulations and safety guidelines.
  • Pass and obtained an FAA - Part 107 License.
  • Provide aerial images to attempt to locate wanted subjects, missing persons, articles that were discarded by suspects.
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections of all UAS's to assess the conditions before and after each flight mission.
  • Provide and attend monthly UAS trainings, and educate new UAS pilots on proper flying techniques and our policy/procedures regarding the usage of the UAS.
  • Respond quickly for after hours call outs.
  • Ensure up to date compliance with local/state/federal laws and regulations regarding the use of the UAS.
  • Assist in overhead watch during search warrants.
  • Provide overhead watch for officers on the ground, and provide clear, concise radio communications for those officers to effectively make an arrest (or arrests).

Youth Service Officer (YSO) (Detective) - 03/19/2021

  • Daily patrols of my assigned schools to ensure the safety of both the students and school staff.
  • Be a visible presence on the school campus (campuses).
  • Support school staff/Administrators with discipline issues involving students and/or parents.
  • Investigate any/all crimes involving children of school age.
  • Develop good/healthy relationships with students by engaging in conversations and participating in activities.
  • Participate in community outreach (i.e. Trunk or Treat, Board Meetings, after school programs, etc.) programs to improve the relationship between the school district needs/wants and the Visalia Police Department needs/wants.
  • Intervene when necessary to prevent conflicts from getting out of control before any violence occurs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school district/school staff and the Visalia Police Department and/or any other agencies.
  • Enforce juvenile laws by making arrests when appropriate, issuing citations, and/or counseling juveniles when appropriate.
  • Carry a case load from: patrol reports, cases that arise during my shift at a school campus, assist Child Welfare Services, investigate SCAR (Suspected Child Abuse Reports), etc.
  • Assist other units when requested (Violent Crimes, Property Crimes, etc.).

VPD - Social Media Team - 05/18/2021

  • Assist and develop social media posts/strategies to increase community awareness/engagement with community members.
  • Assist the PIO (Public Information Officer) and Community Outreach Coordinator with any support/help they might needs for any social media posts.

  • Completed Background Investigator School (40 hours) in 2022.

Communications Operator (Dispatcher)

  • Answer emergency 911 calls from the public and dispatch the appropriate Patrol Officers to handle the call for service.
  • Obtain information from distressed callers, be able to enter the call for service, and provide updates for the call for service as the situation evolves.
  • Answer non-emergency calls from the public and be able to direct their call to the correct location, or enter a call for service.
  • Utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system to be able to update incident status, locate police units, etc.
  • Document radio communications and phone communications accurately.
  • Maintain contact with patrol units on a call for service and to provide any type of further assistance/support that might be needed/that may arise (i.e. request for K9 call out, UAS call out, VC call out, PC call out, etc.).
  • Research and run vehicle registrations, warrant inquiries, driving records, RAP's, etc. or any other requests Police Officers might have.
  • Great ability to multitask with answering phones, listening to the room, provide read-backs for Officers, and dispatch/answer the radio.
  • Dispatch for VPD, Visalia Fire Department, and the Visalia City Animal Control.
