Probation Division Director II
- Superintendent of two county Juvenile Detention and Assessment Centers. Responsible for the direction of activities and operations of each facility consisting of diverse units and programs. Reviewed methods and procedures within the division to ensure conformance with department policies, California Standards and Authority (CSA) and laws to improve program effectiveness. Supervised training and evaluate subordinate staff.
- As superintendent, labored for fair treatment of Probation youth. For two years, headed a committee charged with creating a tool for compliance that improved the quality of care for detained Probation youth.
- Assembled workgroups charged with researching and implementing specific practices for the department including gener-specific, evidence based programming, staff training and mental health services.
- Led the workgroup (first state county) to address the PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) compliance implementation plan. The plan focused on prevention, detection, response and monitoring of sexual abuse in juvenile facilities.
- Led the "Transition Team" for the opening of two Juvenile Detention and Assessment Centers which included,the construction phases, budget planning, operations, staffing, training and inspections.
- Represented San Bernardino County Probation at the state level when appointed to the Southern Region California Association of Probation Institution Administrators (CAPIA) Training Committee as business manager, secretary and chair. Served on CAPIA Executive Board for ten years; presented training consistent with current and emerging trends in juvenile corrections that impact probation departments throughout California. Chaired a Board of State and Community Corrections Title 15 Regulation Revision Committee to address detention safety, staff training standards and standards for juvenile facilities.
- Last assignment encompassed managerial oversight of the department's External Affairs Unit (managed community relations, recruitment and special evens), Compliance/Audits and Inspections Unit, Policies and Procedures Unit and the Research Unit. Also, served as the department's Public Information Officer.
