Steven Labrenz is a Minnesota‑based brand storyteller whose work is shaped by a lifetime spent in wild places. Raised in Alaska, Steven learned early that the outdoors is more than scenery — it’s a teacher. Before he ever stepped into a boardroom, he was loading gear before sunrise, working alongside his dad’s landscaping crew, and fishing in remote places most people never see. Those experiences built the foundation for the steady, grounded leadership he brings to every project.
Professionally, Steven has led integrated marketing and communications programs for technical, mission‑driven organizations, directing videography, shaping story arcs, and crafting narratives that bring clarity to complex work. His strength lies in translating real human moments — whether in the field, at camp, or on the trail — into stories that inspire connection and trust.
In recent years, Steven returned to his roots through youth wilderness guiding in the Boundary Waters, teaching young people not just how to paddle or pitch a tent, but what it means for a place to be truly wild. When fires swept the BWCA, he stepped in to support Camp St. Croix, the camp where he first learned to lead. Working with five‑ to ten‑year‑olds reminded him that storytelling isn’t just a professional skill — it’s a way to help people feel seen, confident, and part of something bigger.
Today, as Founder & Brand Storytelling Director of Wilderness Narrative Co., Steven blends executive communications expertise with outdoor experience to help organizations tell stories with purpose, clarity, and heart. His work is rooted in place, shaped by community, and driven by a belief that the outdoors has the power to heal, connect, and transform.
Wilderness Narrative Co. was born from the belief that the outdoors teaches us things no classroom ever could — clarity, humility, teamwork, and the ability to see the world with a wider lens. Our work is grounded in the idea that stories shaped by wild places carry a different kind of truth. They’re lived, not manufactured. They’re felt, not forced.
Founded in Minnesota and shaped by an upbringing in Alaska, Wilderness Narrative Co. blends executive‑level brand strategy with the authenticity of backcountry experience. We help mission‑driven organizations, outdoor brands, and community‑focused nonprofits tell stories that feel human, grounded, and real. Whether guiding youth in the Boundary Waters, volunteering at Camp St. Croix, or directing narrative for technical field teams, our work centers on one thing: elevating the moments that matter.
We believe storytelling is a form of stewardship — a way to honor people, places, and purpose. Wilderness Narrative Co. exists to bring clarity, meaning, and emotional resonance to the stories that deserve to be told.
