After 2 years as a staff nurse, I was promoted to Charge Nurse of a 60 bed intermediate care unit. Along with these duties, I also assisted with Quality Improvement efforts to collect, monitor and evaluated data in the clinical care areas. I also assisted the Nursing Leaders with improving customer service and evaluation of staff performance. In August of 1997, I was promoted to the Assistant Director of Nursing. This position was responsible for maintaining accountability for the provision of resident care according to professional standards of nursing practice in compliance with State and Federal regulations for the 179 bed long term care institution. My other duties associated with the ADON position included overseeing the Infection Prevention program, resident assessments and care plan development, policy review and staff development.
