College Workshop Seminars

  • Anxiety in Students - 02/22/21: This webinar reflects on the effect of fear on our students lives in regard to anxiety. It addresses the similarities between good and bad anxiety, as well as how to understand how anxiety expressed itself in passive and aggressive attitudes, and how to establish instructional techniques to ensure students feel encouraged and understood., This seminar has the potential to advance my career development because anxiety is a major concern for young students, as well as students of all ages. Anxiety is a significant concern in school as the majority of students that suffer from anxiety problems or measure anxiety. The seminar discussed how to help students cope with anxiety, as well as what anxiety is and how it is triggered. As a teacher this helps me professionally because now I know the signs to look for in my students to see how I can accommodate them best.
  • Police in Schools - 02/18/21: The focus of this seminar is on school policing. Police are put in schools for a variety of different reasons, so is it very positive to have police in schools for students? As they have a higher rate of compliance, having police in schools will have a positive affect on students. Inside the school, they will participate in school shootings, assaults, ensure protection for students. There are, however, also drawbacks of the police in schools. This seminar told me that many people in schools had a poor view of the police. Students have poor academic performance poor developmental results, and a higher drop out rate as well as disciplinary issues with the police in classrooms. The subject of the police improving the situations in schools for students is discussed throughout this seminar., This impacts my professional growth by making me aware of more challenges in schools. This seminar makes you mindful of all the children being embraced. The needs of all the students are different, and we should serve the needs of all the students as teachers to the best of our abilities at all times. It has its positives and as negatives to have police in schools and can influence the actions of students differently and we need to remain mindful this. Every student comes from different backgrounds and situations. It can make certain students feel insecure and cause odd reactions and feelings by seeing police in school. This seminar was able to give me a different outlook before I even had my own classroom.
  • Confronting Racism Through Courageous Conversations in the Secondary Classroom - 02/22/21: In the seminar, this lecture reflects discussing and understanding bias and how to do it. This covers the best way to approach the subject into allow learners not only to hear but also to understand diversity. Explain as 'it is something we should be proud of' to students., I discovered ways of resolving significant but contentious discussions. By addressing them in a constructive way, we will discuss the controversial topic. You are a supportive place for students as a teacher and will always provide support. We are teaching students brave space but we should still come to new understandings and embrace all the views of other people. I learn to influence students to keep an open mind/respect all views and thoughts while being an involved listener. As teachers we set the tone for students therefore I learned through this seminar that you should often model what respectful conversations and open minds sound and looks like.
