Working as a Correctional Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice taught me the true meaning of discipline, integrity, and leadership. One of the biggest challenges I faced was maintaining control and professionalism during high-pressure situations involving inmate conflicts, emotional stress, and security threats. Every day required me to stay alert, make quick decisions, and protect both staff and offenders while keeping the environment safe and orderly. Through those experiences, I learned how important patience, communication, and emotional control are in earning respect and maintaining authority on the unit.
