Research History

Undergraduate Research Assistant – Dr. Lugo’s Neurology Lab (May 2021 – December 2022) 1000 hours

  • Conducted ultrasonic vocalization scoring using specialized software.
  • Evaluated Vitamin D treatment effects on Fragile X syndrome (FXS) mice; determined no significant reduction in repetitive nose‑poke behavior.
  • Performed hippocampal slice analysis, counting microglia to assess post‑seizure immune response (primary project).
  • Trained fellow undergraduates on data‑scoring platforms; managed and curated large data sets for graduate‑student projects (microglia counts, elevated T‑maze video scoring).
  • Assisted with routine lab tasks (e.g., tube labeling) and met tight deadlines for graduate‑student experiments.
  • Co‑author, "Assessment of the effects of sex, age, and rearing conditions on ultrasonic vocalizations elicited by pups during the maternal potentiation paradigm in C57BL/6J mice" and "NS-Pten knockout mice exhibit sex and hippocampal subregion-specific increases in microglia/macrophage density"
