I am working towards a medical profession, and have enjoyed all of the working experience I have gained. All of my past employers have had have given me the opportunity to learn and flourish in a working environment. I want to continue to gain knowledge and experience that will help with my profession in the future.
As a receptionist, I helped all guests with appointment making, greeting them upon arrival, and ensured their time in the establishment was the best it could be. I answered the phone to help with any questions as well as resolved any problems that guests were having. I handled all payment transactions with cash and card, also having a record of all payment history for all guests.
For three summers, I worked at my high school's summer camp program, for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade, as a teaching assistant, and as this past summer as a camp counselor. I helped counselors who were running the specific camp topics. I was responsible for keeping track of campers and making sure they were focused on what was being taught. I interacted with parents who were dropping and picking up their children. Each week I was with a new teacher, so I had to be flexible in dealing with not only kids of different ages, but also with new topics. As a camp counselor, I took on the task of creating new projects for the kids to take on. The activities we did were catered to the specific ages, while also being fitting for everyone. I really enjoyed my three summers as Bosque Summer Camp as I was exposed to new educational experiences and was able to, again, use my organizational skills to help the counselors and applied that to becoming a counselor.
At an indoor trampoline park I continued to hone my customer service skills by engaging with patrons. I was quickly moved up to run the cash register where I had the opportunity to truly interact with adults on a professional level. Even though I was working closely with the general manager, my favorite part of this job was still supervising kids who were jumping, tumbling and having the times of their lives.
I took a huge leap and applied to an emergency veterinary clinic, a profession I knew little about. I have always had an interest in the medical field and knew this would give me insight about animal medicine. Hired as an orderly, I helped the doctors and the techs with whatever they needed, while also maintaining a clean environment throughout the hospital. I helped calm animals that were in distress, which is the part of the job I found most rewarding. I learned so much from this experience, primarily how to manage various levels of stress throughout the day, and how to respond to medical professionals who were often in the middle of life-or-death situations.
As my first summer job, I worked at my parents' architecture firm as an assistant and receptionist. While only for a summer, I had the responsibility of greeting clients and colleagues. I helped the staff with general administrative tasks such as organization of project binders and filing. I have always been an organized person and this experience allowed me to take a little burden off others.
