Work History

IT Consultant - Comprehensive Support Specialist

Thomas Inman
Hillsboro, OR
2001 - Current
  • Serving hundreds of small office businesses and home office businesses that have no internal IT support department
  • From Hawaii to the East Coast, helping individuals with their specific needs ranging from software and hardware troubleshooting, anticipating future needs and upgrades, preventative maintenance, networking and server installations, setting up new laptops/desktops/devices, and being a calming presence for those who are under pressure, seeking solutions to resolve their computer issues
  • Primarily focused on meeting people 'where they are' - all skill levels, abilities, and needs.
  • Received countless comments over the years from customers about being a good 'teacher' that helped them become more self sufficient through educating instead of preaching.
  • Instead of taking remote control of the user's computer to fix it and walk away, taught them what caused the problem and how to avoid it in the future.
  • Step by step, at their own pace, they would learn and retain new knowledge.
  • This is what so many people actually wanted and appreciated the most. A rewarding experience for all. Wonderful!
  • Offered remote support beginning in 2001 when the concept was not well understood or even heard of by most people. Remote support has been the primary means to support users anywhere in the country regardless of time zone or office hours.
  • Genuinely helping people has been the true joy of this business, and it succeeded as a result.
  • No advertising was ever needed because by doing good work in a friendly way, customers referred their friends, colleagues, and other businesses.
  • Growth has always been completely organic, beginning with a referral from a trusted person, and then start-to-finish results with a smile that led to another referral, then another, and so on.

  • The workplace was very formal and a high degree of professionalism and competency was expected at all times
  • Relationships established there from the President on down, including clients of the firm crossed over into Tom's IT Consulting side business
  • Relationships that have spanned nearly 20 years.

Additional Information

Tom enjoys most of all, life with his girlfriend, and also playing with their several four legged fur balls. As a former Slalom and GS alpine racer, he also enjoys snow skiing Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor and daydreaming about the old days of total invincibility, except for the occasional yard sale crashes under the chairlifts for everyone to see. Water skiing the Oregon Willamette river, and beautiful Flathead Lake in Montana. Fishing, hunting, camping, and flying helicopters and planes with Gramp, dirt bike riding in the Tillamook Burn with friends were all enjoyable times years ago. Precision driving and working on his favorite sports car is still a favorite activity. He also likes ogling over a friend's collection of exotic race cars, which mysteriously never seem to have any gas in them or any way to unlock the doors!
