In the 2 years I have been the RN Supervisor in the Family Birthing Unit I have have been able to use my knowledge of care at the bedside to engage in opportunities that support unit processes at a leadership level. Not only have I been given the opportunity, alongside amazing mentors, to learn and grow as a leader, I have also recognized the value a leader holds and the doors that open having knowledge from a different perspective. As the RN supervisor I have not only grown within myself, but also within my abilities to understand and support best practice, initiate process improvements, engage in quality work and data collection to support gap analysis, be a lead resource to a large group of staff in big bucket work that guides the unit, and I have gained and continue to gain the confidence I need to continue to lead at an administrative level.
