Work History

Correctional Officer

McLean County Sheriff's Department
Bloomington, IL
11.2020 - Current

As a Correctional Officer at McLean County Jail I am responsible for the direct supervision of male and female offenders in custody of McLean County and the State of Illinois. I have many responsibilities while working at the jail depending on the location I work on any given day. I have transported inmates to and from other county jails, state facilities, scheduled doctor appointment, and emergency room visits. I have been responsible for movement inside the jail including to the courthouse, medical department, classes and programs, or relocation due to discipline problems. As a Pod Officer, I provide direct supervision of up to fifty-four inmates maintaining a safe and secure environment while enforcing all rules at the jail. As a Booking Officer, I practice a high level of safety and security to newly arrested individuals who are often mentally ill, intoxicated, combative, belligerent, or non-compliant. I am a Special Response Team (SRT) leader responsible for the training and organization of a squad of fifteen men and woman who train for emergency situations that may arise at the jail.

Correctional Counselor

U.S. Department of Justice
Pekin, IL
02.1998 - 10.2020

Throughout my 22 year federal law enforcement career with the Bureau of Prisons, I have had many unique and rewarding experiences outside the usual realm of a corrections environment. As a member of my institutions Special Operations Response Team, I was proficient in crisis management, advance operations, and hostage rescue. My SORT team was activated several times for national level operations including 2 federal executions and security over high ranking Al-Qaeda members after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. After becoming Bus Operations Certified in 2004, I routinely participate in the transportation of federal inmates in conjunction with the U. S. Marshals Prisoner and Alien Transportation System. (JPATS) I have provided security and transportation for numerous high profile inmates while working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals and many other law enforcement agencies. At the Federal Correctional Institution in Pekin, Illinois, I participated and coordinated Personal Protection Detail for federal judges, congressmen and congresswoman, bureau officials, and high ranking church leaders. I was selected as a Basic Prisoner Transportation Instructor because of my experience and proficiency in security, advance preparation, and weapons efficiency. I was a Disturbance Control Team Leader responsible for a team of 18 members who are trained to respond to emergency situations at FCI Pekin or other institutions. Team Leader responsibilities include knowledge of tactical planning, disturbance response techniques, and team member development. Within my daily job assignments, I was proven to be a trustworthy and efficient employee who responds to and handles emergencies in a highly effective manner.
