• Follows procedures for patient identification, sample procurement, and specimen labeling.

• Performs routine venipuncture specimen collections from patients.

• Follows laboratory procedures for collecting specimens in the appropriate container.

• Controls the physical condition of samples and responds to time factors to ensure that the physiologic state of the specimen is maintained.

• Maintains adequate supplies for all phlebotomy and specimen procurement procedures.

• Answers incoming calls for the laboratory service - finding and relaying accurate information or referring the caller to technical personnel.

• Timekeeping

• Assists the COR and Contracting Officer in calculating the necessary contract funding for the KCVAMC lab contracts.

• Setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.

• Participates in team huddles and team meetings to manage, plan, problem solve, and follow-up with patient care by sharing information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.

• Serves as backup to the Supervisor Office Administration Clerk to provide data to Fiscal Office regarding status of open and stale obligation report.

• Determined purchasing methods and strategies to be applied based on cost, urgency and availability of supplies and use of mandatory schedules. Identify qualified suppliers.

• Specimen handling including receiving, accessioning, processing and distribution.
• Phlebotomy, limited blood testing, trauma timely test ordering.
• Works directly with Support Service Supervisor, assists in clerical duties and ordering supplies.

• Perform waived or low-complexity testing including Sweat testing, preparation of reference lab samples.
