Working with people with disabilities and special needs can be a rewarding experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work at Cup of Dreams Tearoom for almost five years. I have first-hand experience in supporting and encouraging individuals with special needs. This role not only allowed me to contribute to their well-being but also helped me develop valuable communication skills, patience, and empathy. I attend the Arc Village Friday night dances and Sociablilities Saturday evening program. Both programs are designed to promote social interaction and personal growth for individuals with different abilities. These programs create an exclusive environment where everyone can participate and enjoy themselves. Working with special needs individuals has provided me with a deeper understanding of the diverse abilities within our society. I have developed many meaningful connections with individuals and foster those relationships with a biweekly Zoom group chat that is open to anyone with special needs.
