Work History

Environmental Steward

Catawba College
Salisbury, North Carolina
08.2024 - Current
  • Zero waste game days, where we sort through trash, recycling, and composting at the football games. Such days also allowed us to educate the public, as well as other students, about sustainability.
  • We have opportunities to practice leadership within the group of stewards. Some areas include gardening, social media, compost transport, and bike infrastructure, which involve working in teams and looking for ideas that contribute to making our campus more sustainable and carbon-free.
  • While I have had a feel for all the teams, the compost team, which I am currently on, has compostable bins that have been deployed across campus in faculty kitchens that allow us to continue to practice composting.

Trip Leader

Catawba College
Salisbury, North Carolina
07.2024 - 07.2024
  • My first time doing this job was in July 2023. This is a program called REACH Catawba, which is a free outdoor leadership and science program for female-identifying high school students in STEM and outdoors. My job was to teach the children about the environment.
  • My tasks included coming up with learning objectives, and planning routes to take for backcountry and frontcountry packing.
  • I had also had to be creative in how we kept the students engaged, informed, and safe throughout the trip.

Lobbying

Rachel Carson Council
Washington, WA
03.2024 - 03.2024
  • I gained my experience in lobbying during the advocacy days at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. It was a group of students from all over the nation coming together to voice their opinions to Senators about the environmental bills that we wanted them to pass or decline.
  • This was an eye-opening experience that gave me the confidence to stand for what I believe in.
  • The most important aspect I learned was that when we work together, a lot can be accomplished.
