Summary

I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home. I accepted Christ when I was nine years old in Calvary Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida. We moved to Kentucky when I was eleven, and I went to High School there. LaDonna and I were High School sweethearts!

During my senior year, I felt God's call to the ministry and began to prepare to preach and pastor. I had a very encouraging and conservative pastor who helped point me in the right direction. During my college years, LaDonna and I married and we took our first church in Tampa, Florida. God blessed us with three children all of whom are serving the Lord in various churches. Marisa and her family attend and are very active in FBC Kimberling City where her husband is a deacon and the Chief of Police in Branson West. Matthew and his family attend James River and Meagan and her family live in southern California, where they run a Christian Camp called Hume Socal.

I was very thankful in those early years of ministry to see the SBC return to its conservative roots, and I am in agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. I very much believe in the inerrancy of the scriptures and have made the Word a vital part of my life. I have found that I walk closest to the Lord when I am memorizing scripture, and I have made that a part of my daily time with the Lord.

Over these years of ministry, God has developed in me a very loving heart for pastors. Certainly, I have had my share of challenges in the ministry, and I know how hard it can be on a man and his family. While I never had the dream of becoming a DOM, when God led me to seek this position in Lawrence County, it was a very natural fit. To help pastors be healthy and run their race, and to help churches accomplish more by working together, this is what God has called me to do.

My interests outside of work are: spending time with LaDonna, family gatherings, hunting, fishing, and gardening.

  • When God called me to become the DOM for Lawrence County, He gave me a very clear theme. We need healthy pastors. Healthy in their walk with the Lord, healthy at home, and healthy in their churches.
  • Lawrence County pastors meet monthly for fellowship, to build supportive relationships, to discuss the challenges faced in ministry, and to be challenged to be healthy. They are also given opportunities to hear solid preaching and to participate in worship.
  • Many pastors are bi-vocational and are not able to attend daytime events. Several times per year, nighttime invents are held so that bi-vocational guys and their wives can participate.
  • Associations exist so that churches can accomplish more together than they can alone. Examples of this are: camps, youth events, men's gatherings, and ladies retreats.
  • Many churches are struggling and some to even stay open. Lawrence County churches are being offered revitalization techniques that focus on prayer, training, and preparation.
  • Pastors sometimes need a pastor to listen or help, or to help them develop a relationship with another pastor who will be there for them. I believe that every pastor either needs a pastor friend or is needed by someone else who needs a pastor friend. Ministry is hard!
