I began with the company as the lead excavation plumbing installer. Between my apprentice and me, we built the department to a total of three crews at one point, and I then received a promotion to project manager. As a project manager, I handled material ordering for the jobs, performed site visits for quality control, acted as the liaison between the customer and the company, and was in charge of training the installation crews. In addition to the above, I was in charge of converting and scheduling the sold estimates. I also worked with the salesmen to ensure that what was being sold was the solution for the customer, and the right information was being given to the installation crew.
As the lead excavation plumber, I worked with an apprentice and performed primary residential plumbing installation jobs, which were roughly as follows.
I helped build the plumbing department from one plumber to seven plumbers. We performed almost every type of plumbing here, from excavating to repair sewer lines, to replacing full septic systems. In addition, we did remodel plumbing, new construction plumbing from the ground all the way up, we performed well work as well, this includes the wiring and replacing of the pumps and all associated parts. We also performed your basic plumbing service.
I performed service plumbing to include toilet rebuilds, toilet replacements, water heater repair and replacement, faucet repair and replacement, bathroom remodels, and drain and water line replacement and repair. I also performed excavation plumbing to include pipe bursting, pipe lining, general sewer replacement and repair, drain cleaning and jetting, and remodel plumbing. In addition, I performed repairs and maintenance on the equipment and fleet.
This is where I started my professional plumbing career. I was initially hired as the fleet mechanic to perform yearly maintenance on the service vehicles and as needed repairs until a spot on the excavation crew opened. Once it did, I performed all types of plumbing, from sump pump installs for keep out the rain, to backwater valves for Johnson County wastewater. I also performed sewer and water spot repairs to full replacements, pipe bursting, drain cleaning, repipe work for both water and drain, and much more. For my last two years, I was split between excavation plumbing and service plumbing.
