Being a political science major in college I become heavenly involved with the local scene of politics in my area. I ran and managed my own campaign after attending a 3 day seminar at the capital in Springfield Il. It was like running a business from the ground up. I ran radio, tv , and newspaper ads to promote my candidacy for state senate. I had fund raisers to generate money for my ad campaigns along with organizing volunteers to help with signs to get my name out . I personally knock on doors , made phone calls to express my views and opinions about certain policy issues. High costs of health care, jobs leaving America to Mexico , education, and the high costs of inflation. (sound familiar)
During the summer of 1992 I drove a tractor pulling a hay wagon with a sign mounted on the wagon reading "Win With Warren" . It was during the time when farmers was pushing for ethanol to be used for a petroleum additive from their corn production rather than methanol from oil based additive. Hence Warren for Corn campaign. I started out in Hoopeston Il. on route 1 all the way the Springfield Il. over 150 miles. I had parade of volunteers and during that period of time I would generate radio remotes at different intervals along the way. It took two days and we drove into the State Fair grounds during the Illinois State fair. The same day President George H. W. Bush made his speech is was an oil man for ethanol.
It was an exiting time of my life. I shook a lot of hands and kissed a lot of babies unfortunately I came in second to my incumbent opponent whom later on died in office after serving 6 terms as the 53rd Illinois state senator . In summary I guess you could say the motto of this story is the real meaning of POLITICS. Poly means many and Tics are blood sucking animals. Trying to attain Progress, but you end up with Congress. I guess you say that is the Pros and Cons of politics.
