- Uses the Flux Cored Arc Welding process to tack weld various small components to round or formed shafts to make a pole assembly for the welder to weld
- The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts
- Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly
- Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station
- Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly
- Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area
- Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds
- Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments
- Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications
- Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles

- Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures

- Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner

- Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas
- Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing
- Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially
- Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications
- Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size
- When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code
- Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications
- Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area
