TA Job Duties
Under direction, regularly conducts and/or reviews highly complex audits of corporations, businesses, partnerships and individuals involving taxes administered by the Department of Revenue; serves as an auditor-in-charge, assigning, directing and reviewing the activities of an audit team conducting complex and large scale audits; confers and corresponds with taxpayers and/or their representatives concerning tax audit issues and findings; interprets and resolves technical problems in the course of the audit; prepares and/or reviews and approves audit reports; testifies as an expert witness at informal hearings and/or in court; researches tax laws, rules, regulations and other resource materials applicable to cases.
Under direction, is regularly assigned to conduct and/or review selected, medium/large Illinois and/or out-of-state audits of corporations, businesses, partnerships and individuals involving taxes administered by the Department of Revenue at the journey work level; serves as an auditor-in-charge, assigning, directing and reviewing the activities of an audit team conducting large scale audits of large corporations, industries and business entities; confers and corresponds with taxpayers and/or their representatives concerning tax audit issues and findings; interprets and resolves technical problems in the course of the audit; prepares and/or reviews and approves audit reports; testifies as an expert witness at informal hearings and/or in court; researches tax laws, rules, regulations and other resource materials applicable to cases.
Under general supervision, independently conducts and/or reviews selected tax audits at a developmental level, of small to medium sized Illinois and/or out-of-state corporations, industries, business organizations or self-employed taxpayers; examines and analyzes journals, ledgers, financial statements and other tax documents; attends hearings and informal conferences; researches tax laws, rules, regulations and other source material applicable to cases; prepares comprehensive and detailed case reports; participates as a team member in performing segments of large and inherently complex audits; serves as an auditor-in-charge of noncomplex audits; and may occasionally conduct a large audit receiving close supervision in the initial audit plan with intermediate reviews of the steps followed in the audit process.
Under immediate supervision, for a period up to twelve months, participates in a comprehensive, agency sponsored training program in tax auditing; receives classroom instruction and on-the-job training in preparation of performing professional revenue tax auditing duties; receives introduction and orientation to agency structure, policies, procedures, and mission.
Under general supervision in a consolidated employment security office, assesses client service needs; takes and processes routine, complex and special claims including interstate, military, other federal or trade readjustment; conducts benefit rights interviews and clarifies eligibility factors; adjudicates contested benefit claims issues, excluding the complex issues of determination contests, able and available to work conditions not specifically defined by statutes, work search, separation issues, felony and theft, refusal of work and requests for revision of benefit wages; provides routine eligibility determinations; categorizes occupational fields and assigns codes; provides referral, placement and follow-up services on available job orders or training programs; utilizes computer for job match and sort; may solicit job orders by telephone; administers department approved tests; performs reception and intake duties for a combined service operation; processes and extracts data using an automated system; keeps and processes activity records; refers clients with complex issues and service needs to appropriate consolidated office staff.
