Work History

Flow Cytometry Technologist

Montefiore Medical Center Moses Division
01.2023 - Current
  • Mentor of junior team members to enhance their technical skills and improve overall team productivity.
  • Coordination of inventory supplies and equipment to maximize team productivity.
  • Preparation of reagents and solutions used in staining and flow cytometry analysis of samples
  • Assistance in training staff, residents, fellows and/or other trainees
  • Analyzes in flow cytometric software and reports results of immunophenotyping and CD34+ stem cell enumeration to Stem Cell Laboratory personnel.

Post-doctoral researcher

Albert Einstein College of Medicine
01.2021 - 01.2023
  • I worked with 2 projects during the period. One of them was related to the investigation of the molecular mechanisms involved in the benefits of twice a night feeding in mice. I used flow cytometry to assess immune cells in this model. The second project was the investigation of autophagy and immune cells in peripheral tissues of PS19 mice, a genetic model of Tau accumulation.
  • I used flow cytometry as major technique to assess immune cells from stromal vascular cells of adipose tissue.

Post-doctoral position

State University of Rio de Janeiro
01.2017 - 02.2021

In this period of post doctoral research I worked with hypothalamic tissue from fetuses that were generated in an obese environment. I also conducted a systematic review on the role of fatty acids in ceramides pathways and their influence on hypothalamic regulation of energy balance. Those records can be found on Pubmed.

Nutrition professor

Einstein Faculty (Faculdades Integradas Einstein de Limeira)
01.2019 - 01.2020
  • Professor of Human Nutrition and Etics.

Master and PhD researcher

University of Campinas (Unicamp)
01.2013 - 01.2019
  • Researcher working with the effects of saturated fat acids on autophagy in neuronal cells and the hypothalamus.

01.2015

B.S. in Nutrition -

University of Campinas
Limeira, Brazil
01.2012

Skills

  • In vivo: experience with rodent (mouse) model involving animal handling, establishing and maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, breeding, weaning, genotyping, health monitoring, anesthesia, injections, gavages, perfusions, dissections, metabolic tests, stereotaxic surgery
  • In vitro: aseptic techniques, establishment and maintenance of several cell lines, including hepatocytes, neurons and microglia Transfection, viral transduction, cryopreservation, critical experiments involving chemical compounds
  • Protein Assays: protein extraction, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation, ELISA
  • Molecular analysis: DNA and RNA extraction and purification from cultured cells and animal tissues, cDNA preparation, PCR, RT-qPCR
  • Staining and image analysis: immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry
  • Flow Cytometry (BD Accuri and Cytek-Aurora) working with autophagy detection and spectral cytometry assessing immune cells from bone marrow and stromal vascular cells from adipose tissue (B, T, ILC2, macrophages and progenitors cells)
  • Computer Skills: Office; GraphPad Prism; ImageJ; Flow-Jo

Personal Information

  • I am a researcher from Brazil, who is passionate about science in general, specially studying nutrition, autophagy, and metabolism. I am particularly interested in working with the technique of flow cytometry, that I have used to assess autophagy in neurons and am currently using to assess immune cells from stromal vascular fraction. I enjoy working collaboratively with other researchers in the lab and I also have a passion for educating other scientists, students, and the public about issues in science and nutrition.
